"Advertisements are the most prevalent and toxic of the mental pollutants", says Kalle Lasn in the article "Hype" . Channels stations, public transportation, billboards are paid by these companies to do show their ads, so why not show as many as you can. It isn't really noticed by our collective unconscious on how many ads and commercials we see a day. It would actually be out of the norm to not see any ads or commercials.
If I were in the advertisement business I would agree with the way things are going, but I actually disagree. The way products, movies, games, etc. are advertised these days are overwhelming. I believe it mostly affects the younger generation, because instead of being interested in more important things such as school, they're more concerned on the newest game or hottest sneakers coming out. For example, my younger brother who is 8, spent his whole summer indoors playing the game "Mine Craft" and begging for the new " Black ops" that comes out this fall. As a child I would think you would rather be outside enjoying the summer, rather than being cooped up inside worrying about the newest coming attractions of a new game.
When I turn on the television to watch a show, I can't even focus on what the show is about because of all the commercials I see. The channel shows more commercials than the scheduled programming. Even radio apps such as "Pandora" and "Spotify" play commercials. In order not  hear the commercials you must pay a monthly fee, another great way to earn some money.
In conclusion, I think its extremely unnecessary with the amount of ads and commercials that are showed and heard. If these advertisement companies put out less, I believe we would all be able to gain our piece of mind back.
